ECTS/DS Training Seminar
Introduction
This seminar was organised in the framework of the National Teams of Bologna Experts 2008/2009 forming part of the top-up projects.
This initiative is focused on the mechanisms that Higher Education Institutions should adopt to introduce the ECTS and the DS at diploma and degree level (EQF Levels 5 and 6). The seminar involves a two-day workshop on the application of ECTS and DS to a select number of courses both at University and at Vocational College systems.
Seminar Management
This seminar was organised by the European Union Programmes Agency which manages the EU Educational Programmes mainly the Lifelong Learning Programme, the Youth in Action Programme, the National Teams of Bologna Experts, the Euromed Platform, Eurodesk Network, the Euroguidance Network, the Integration Fund for Third Country Nationals and the Citizenship Programme.
The seminar was chaired by the BFUG Coordinator – Dr. James Calleja

Programme
Objectives
The main objectives of this seminar are:
- To introduce the ECTS and DS mechanisms in two of the higher education institutions in Malta, mainly the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and the Institute of Tourism Studies, with the help of the University of Malta which has already adopted the ECTS and DS mechanisms;
- To give an opportunity to academic and administrative staff from all higher education institutions in Malta to discuss a common credit system that fits into Malta’s National Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning allowing progression, mobility, transferability and employability;
- To introduce and help Maltese HEIs with applying for the ECTS and DS Labels.
Impact of the Seminar
Introduction or/and sustainable implementation of ECTS and DS across a number of courses at Vocational and Higher Education institutions with a particular focus on the need to bridge vocational with higher education programmes of studies. The project will help explore the multifaceted impact of the ECTS and DS on mobility, transferability and transparency of qualifications.
Target Groups
Teaching and administration staff and students from the University of Malta, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage as well as those from private HEIs and training institutions.
